I was born into a family that loves plants of all sorts. My grandmother loves her flowers, my mum loved her vegetables. Many an afternoon was spent out in the yard with my mum while she tended to her plants. Of course, I wasn’t doing anything with the plants. I was usually catching bugs, playing with toys, etc.
Alas, growing up, I hated plants. I hated them with a passion! In college, I took botany as it was required for my major and I hated that. It took me until the tender age of 24 to even have one lonely houseplant – it happened to be a philodendron, which I killed 4 years later when I moved it from the cool, overcast lands of NW Washington to the hot, semi-arid valleys of Southern Oregon.
I didn’t really start to enjoy plants until about two years ago and I’ve made up for it since then. Next year, I’m planning on doing my Master Gardener certification. My house is overflowing with plants – cacti, succulents, green houseplants and trees. Read a little bit, comment a little bit – if you like plants, you’ll like it here!
